JANELLE KOENIG - SWELL
(a show 8 1/2 months in the making)
Once Australian comedy’s poster girl for raucous promiscuity and the wanton single girl lifestyle – Janelle Koenig is changing her ways…
The new bloke on the scene and the bun in the oven could have influenced this decision somewhat.
Having performed all over Australia, Singapore, the USA and UK, Janelle has made a career of regaling her audiences with her saucy singleton tales, but her 2009 Melbourne Comedy Festival show SWELL will change all that.
Audiences will travel the wonderland of impending motherhood with Janelle as she negotiates trading in her hand bag for nappy bags and stilettos for sterilisers* and contends with the fact that her life has done a complete 360 in twelve months…and she couldn’t be happier. How did this happen?
In a Comedy Festival first (and at the risk of being labeled the ultimate prop comic) Janelle will be the first woman to perform her show at 8 1/2 months pregnant. It’s the ultimate in high risk theatre. She’ll probably also be the first to perform a show with a tarp on the stage…just in case.
Janelle has won fans across the country on stage (Call Girls, Life After Dick, Puppetry of Penis), radio (Nova) and TV land (Stand Up Australia, Last Comic Standing - Miami) for her impious style and knows that this brand new show, featuring brand new songs will both fascinate and titillate anyone who’s been pregnant, got someone pregnant or come out of a womb. It’s a show for all.
Janelle is up the duff, and she’s going to tell it like it is. Strap yourself in (stirrups optional), take a pregnant pause and see the premiere of Janelle’s first solo show – before she’s never solo again. You’ll be laughing all the way to the sperm bank.
*she's not really trading in her stilettos - she's pregnant, not dead!
